Protect You

By Emalynn Stone

I'm torn,
Each mistake you make,
There goes any chance I had,
Leaving only your heart to break.

I can't help you,
You're independent.
My help is unwanted,
But if only you knew what I meant.

You're so love-struck,
I'm so afraid for you.
But you push away my help,
So what can I do?

I hate the thought that,
I can't protect you.
So strange, this feeling,
Like a bird protecting a lion, in a zoo.

Craziness is a part of our lives,
We're so in sync with it.
But yet, the minute we don't...
We go off with a fit.

I don't know how to explain it,
My reflex reaction to you.
I only want to protect you...
But if you don't want it, what can I do?
